This qualification reflects the role of employees such as production operators in an underground metalliferous mine, who perform tasks involving a broad range of skilled applications in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures.

There are no specific academic entry requirements for this qualification.
Applicants for the Certificate III in Underground Metalliferous Mining are expected to:
- Have a demonstrated capacity in learning, reading, writing, oracy and numeracy competencies to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). See Australian Core Skills Framework.
The above requirements could be demonstrated by applicants in a variety of ways such as:
- Having completed secondary school to year 11;
- Verified references from an employer indicating that the applicant has demonstrated the above requirements in their workplace;
- Via an interview process that assesses the applicant’s skills.
Work Placement Requirements
Students must be over 18 years of age for High Risk Licence training
Upon successful completion of High Risk Licencing units, students are provided with a Tax Invoice to apply for their High Risk Work Licence. There is an additional cost to the student associated with the issuance of the licence, please visit www.safework.sa.gov.au for more information

Students must wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including steel cap boots, long pants and long sleeved shirt at all times

8 elective units, of which:
at least five (5) must be chosen from Group A
no more than three (3) may be chosen from Group B
no more than two (2) units may come from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course.
All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.
There are both licensed and non-licensed units of competency relating to high risk work in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. To be appointed under any statutory requirements in related roles, units of competency should be selected to meet the state/territory licensing requirements.
There are prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification. Where a unit is imported as an elective care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified are complied with.
A prerequisite must be considered in the total number of units chosen.
