Welfare and Wellbeing Support Officer
Career Employment Group Inc is seeking applications for a full time Welfare and Wellbeing Support Officer in Port Augusta. This is a residential position.
The role of the Welfare and Wellbeing Support Officer is to provide support to workers originating from Pacific Islands and Timor-Leste, who are working in Port Augusta, South Australia, as part of the PALM Scheme.
This position is multi-faceted and requires the incumbent to be a main point of contact for workers, assisting workers for both work and out-of-work matters, exercising local knowledge, and undertake timely and ongoing written reports. This role will require out of hours and weekend work (to be negotiated).
Core Duties
- Learn and understand PALM Guidelines.
- Assist with worker arrivals and demobilisation to and from Port Augusta.
- Assist transportation of workers to and from work on a daily basis.
- Assist workers with settling into the local community, including but not limited to: introducing to potential sporting clubs, local churches, local banks and shops.
- Explain to workers what an emergency is and assist workers with emergency situations that may arise.
- Conduct weekly face-to-face contact with workers to build trust, establish rapport and manage everyday issues.
- Build relationships with Country Liaison Officers, including supporting their engagement with workers.
- Assist workers with accessing medical and allied health services, and assisting with health insurance claims.
- Regularly liaise with workers to identify any welfare or wellbeing concerns, and where possible, resolve issues or escalate concerns to CEG management.
- Monitor the progress, placement and wellbeing of workers on a weekly basis, ensuring appropriate documentation is completed.
- Be regularly available to discuss employment progress, settlement and other matters with PALM.
- Undertake Cultural Competency training related to the workers country of origin.
- Clearly communicate with workers to ensure they understand code of conduct and behavioural expectations outside of work, and not engage in conduct that could cause reputational damage.
- Keep a detailed record of all meetings, grievances and actions taken.
- Report concerns or issues to PALM in consultation with CEG management.
- Confidentially and concisely discuss financial matters with workers, including responding to queries relating to pay slips and deductions.
- Undertake monthly inspection of accommodation facilities, ensuring workers are maintaining an appropriate level of cleanliness and living standards.
- Promote safety as one of CEG’s core values through practical application and demonstration.
- Be prepared to undertake regular intrastate travel.
- Other duties as depicted by management.
Position Requirements
- Proven experience working with people from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds (advantageous).
- Must have a professional approach, and proven organisational and time management skills.
- Ongoing report writing.
- Ability to work under pressure in a calm, patient, and positive manner.
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely.
- You must be reliable and able to use initiative at all times.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Good understanding of Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Hold a current driver’s licence (essential).
- Pass a National Police Check, and Working with Children Check (essential).
- Pass a pre-employment medical, inclusive of drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be flexible (potential for weekend work and out of hours work).
Conditions
- Generally Monday to Friday (38 hours per week) – however, some outside hours and weekend work (emergency on-call roster for weekends) – possibility of a 10 day on/4 day off roster (to be discussed).
- Award pay rates (plus penalties).
- Company laptop, phone and transport.
