Career Employment Group Inc is seeking applications for an Apprentice Fitter to work with our valued Host Employer in Port Augusta. This is a full time position, requiring you to work Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week, with possible rostered weekend work.

As part of this position, you will undertake a 4-year Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, which will involve ongoing Trade School, allowing you to gain practical knowledge while earning a wage at the same time.

What does a Fitter Apprentice do?

As a Fitter Apprentice, some of the tasks and skills you will learn on the job include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Ensure the efficient and compliant maintenance and operation of a range of plant within the maintenance facilities.
  • Ensuring maintenance and operations work are safe and environmentally sound, ensuring the safety of plant personnel while undertaking tasks.
  • Perform maintenance, services and repairs as instructed by your maintenance supervisor.
  • Assemble and fit fabricated products.
  • Welding and mechanical tasks.
  • Diagnostics of faults and troubleshooting.
  • Other duties as depicted by management.

Apprentice Requirements

  • Must reside in or near Port Augusta.
  • Prior experience or training advantageous (i.e. completion of a trade entry level whilst at school).
  • Have a mechanical and practical aptitude.
  • Have strong problem solving skills and be a fast learner.
  • Be able to use initiative and work well in a team environment.
  • Have a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Pass a pre-employment medical, inclusive of drug and alcohol testing.
  • Hold a valid driver’s licence and have reliable transport.
  • Be a reliable and good communicator.
  • Have completed Year 12 or equivalent Tertiary Level Training.
  • Have an ongoing commitment to safety.
