Career Employment Group Inc is currently seeking applications for a Blaster Painter Trainee to work with our valued Host Employer in Whyalla.

As part of this position, you will undertake a Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation.

What does a Blaster Painter do?

Sandblasters use specialised tools to clean and smooth metal and other hard surfaces. They prepare materials for painting and installation by operating sandblasting hoses that remove corrosion, old paint and other imperfections.

In this role, you may undertake the following tasks:

  • Loading and unloading metals and other materials.
  • Preparing surfaces for sandblasting.
  • Selecting and installing sandblasting attachments.
  • Operating controls on sandblasting tools and machinery.
  • Inspecting finished surfaces for smoothness, defects and quality.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, a full-body suit and a blast helmet.
  • Keeping a tidy workspace and performing general clean-up duties.

What do I need to apply?

To be eligible for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Have a good level of physical fitness.
  • Have the ability to work in noisy environments, including factories and commercial workshops.
  • Mechanical aptitude may be beneficial.
  • Some employers may require you hold a forklift licence or other relevant licence to perform certain job activities.
  • Other qualifications may give you an advantage but are not essential.
