Career Employment Group Inc is currently seeking applications for an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to work with our valued Host Employer in Port Augusta.
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer is responsible for providing assistance, support and follow-up to Aboriginal prisoners within designated prisons, and liaising with staff, community groups and other agencies in promoting the welfare of Aboriginal prisoners.
What does a Liaison Officer do?
As part of this role, you may undertake the following tasks:
- Providing advisory and personal counselling services to Aboriginal offenders, including assistance with following procedures.
- Assisting in the training and professional development of staff in order to promote awareness of issues relating to Aboriginal people.
- Attending local review and case management meetings.
- Abide by and promote work, health and safety policies and procedures.
What do I need to apply?
- Knowledge, understanding of, and experience with Aboriginal culture and customs, including a sound knowledge of current issues relating to Aboriginal people.
- Proven experience to communicate and work with Aboriginal people and communities in an empathetic and culturally sensitive manner.
- Proven ability to maintain personal credibility with Aboriginal people throughout SA.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Proven ability to work under both limited supervision and as part of a team.
- Experience with working with special needs groups and agencies.
- Experience with providing counselling services.
- National Criminal History Check.
- A current South Australian Driver’s Licence
- Have a flexible approach to working hours.
- Some travel will be required, involving overnight absences.
- Desirable: ability to communicate in Pitjantjatjara.
