Career Employment Group Inc is seeking applications for an Aboriginal Community Corrections Officer to work with our valued Host Employer in Coober Pedy.
In this role, you will be responsible for a range of tasks including the supervision of adult offenders and providing case management strategies addressing the needs of offenders.
What does a Community Corrections Officer do?
The Aboriginal Community Corrections Officer is responsible for:
- Contributing to the protection of the community by supervising adult offenders living in remote and sparsely populated areas of SA.
- Providing case management strategies addressing criminogenic needs of offenders.
- Liasing with agencies in relation to supervision of offenders.
- Providing a culturally competent supervision and case management service to Aboriginal offenders to reduce the likelihood of re-offending through case management, the preparation of remotes, assisting with intervention stategies, and ensuring offenders are supervised during community service.
- Maintaining positive relationships with APY Land communities and other relevant stakeholders.
- Abide by and promote work, health and safety policies and procedures.
What do I need to apply?
- National Criminal History Check.
- A current South Australian Driver’s Licence.
- Competent in the use of a 4WD vehicle.
- Capacity to spend considerable time in the APY Lands and other remote locations, including overnight stays.
- Ability to undertake extensive travel on unsealed roads with variable conditions.
- A flexible approach to working hours is required.
- Ability to provide a culturally sensitive, effective and high-quality case management service.
- Proven ability to maintain a high level of credibility within APY communities.
- An understanding of community corrections assessment tools which focus on identifying criminogenic needs of offenders.
- Be able to operate with a high degree of autonomy.
- Ability to work with clients who may be difficult and aggressive.
- High level communication skills.
