Overview
Learn the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants and children in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
This unit is designed for workers in education and care settings who may be required to respond to a first aid emergency, including early childhood workers and educators working in out of hours school care and vacation programs.
Tailored for those who work with children, the course covers child-specific first aid scenarios, including anaphylaxis and asthma, as well as common injuries and resuscitation.
This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).
The course content includes:
- Responding to an emergency situation.
- Apply appropriate first aid procedures.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the ARC guidelines.
- Ensure the casualty feels safe, secure and supported.
- Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturers’ instructions.
- Communicate details of the incident, including accurately conveying incident details to emergency services.
- Report details of incidents involving infants and children to parents or caregivers.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory or organisational policies.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must:
- have the ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English.
- be fit enough to perform CPR uninterrupted for 2 minutes.
There are no additional academic requirements for this course.
Enrolment form and payment is required prior to training commencing.
Other Course Requirements
Participants are required to complete an online self-paced pre-learning module before attending a face-to-face workshop.
Students will also be required to:
- present photo ID
- declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
- wear neat casual clothes & enclosed shoes
- be physically fit enough to complete 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR.
All training materials are supplied by Career Employment Group Inc.
Class Size
Maximum 15 applicants.
Schedule is subject to change if the minimum class size is not met.

- Online Pre-Learning Module: Approximately 4 hours
- Face-to-face Workshop: Approximately 6 hours
Course Locations
This course can be delivered on-site around South Australia, or at a CEG training facility in Whyalla, Port Lincoln, or Roxby Downs.

Additional Information
On successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
